Engelberg is aptly named the 'Mountain of Angels' The name "Engelberg" originates from the foundation of the Benedictine monastery. According to legend the singing voices of angels gave Engelberg its name.
Engelberg is very easily accessible, right in the middle of Switzerland. Only 20 kilometers from the motorway by car, or a comfortable ride from Lucerne by train on the Zentralbahn line, direct to the monastery village of Engelberg – what could be nearer?
Engelberg’s culture goes back to the 12th century. The village is characterised by the monastery and the monastery church. The largest organ in Switzerland! , an impressive library, the museum Engelberg, the manor house and the Cheese Factory are all here to be admired. Its culture has been associated with divinity for centuries.
